Finally we are at Dover. Can you hear the wind, the waves, the seabirds calling? I, for one, am ready to lay down my parcel, sit on this rock, and wash my feet.
After walking this road for nearly a year—can it really have been so long?—I am glad to have a few days left before Cordelia arrives (upon reflection, I realize that she has been on her way for four hundred years) to rest, to wait quietly. Clear the mind. Open the heart.
To those who have joined me on this journey for the past two months, I thank you for your company. You have made the anticipation easier to bear, and I hope I have prepared you somewhat for the experience of welcoming Cordelia as a messenger from another world.
May each such messenger whom we meet by design make us readier to receive those who take us by surprise.
